Ms. M. Hoeks About DRN

What Others Say About DRN

Why No Fixed Prices Upfront?

Fixed pricing in our field would mean compromising on the quality and depth of the recovery — and that’s something we simply won’t do. At DRN, we deliberately choose a tailored approach to ensure we always achieve the best possible recovery results.

Discover Why We Don’t Settle for Standard Pricing

Why Data Recovery Can’t Have a Fixed Price – and Why a “Starting From” Price at DRN Is the Only Honest Approach

Imagine this: thousands of photos of your children growing up, years of work documents, a graduation thesis you’ve spent months on, or video footage of a lost loved one—gone. One moment of carelessness, a power surge, or a faulty drive, and everything becomes inaccessible. The panic, the grief, the disbelief. For many, the data they’ve lost is literally irreplaceable. That’s what data recovery is really about: saving memories, knowledge, evidence, or work that would otherwise be lost forever.

At DRN, we understand that emotion better than anyone. That’s exactly why we’ve chosen not to work with fixed prices before performing a diagnosis. Not because we want to be vague. On the contrary: because we want to be honest about what’s truly needed to recover your data.

Every Case Is Unique

Example: Two cases of “physical damage,” but completely different challenges.

  • Case A:A 500 GB hard drive with one broken read head, but no sector damage. 👉 Technically straightforward to recover using the right donor parts.

  • Case B:A 12 TB drive with three jammed heads and deep scratches on one of the platters. 👉 Far more complex: requires highly precise extraction, carries risk of data loss, and must be handled in multiple recovery stages.

Every case varies in terms of the storage device type, capacity, brand, file system, and type of damage (mechanical, electronic, logical, or a combination). Each of these factors determines how much work, expertise, and equipment is required.

A Fixed Price Is Misleading or Limiting

When companies offer fixed prices, one of two things often happens:

  • They promise too much for too little. Then, when the issue turns out to be more complex, they simply say the recovery couldn’t be completed—because it didn’t fit their price model.

  • They reject the case altogether, because the risk and effort required are too great for the pre-agreed amount.

At DRN, we see clients every week who were told elsewhere: “Your data can’t be recovered.” Not because it was truly impossible, but because it didn’t fit the other company’s rigid pricing structure. Often, it’s the most valuable and sensitive data in these cases. Fortunately, these people come to us for a second chance—and in many cases, we succeed where others gave up.

A Starting Price, and Certainty After Diagnosis

At DRN, we always provide a starting price range to give you a realistic expectation. Then we conduct a thorough diagnosis. Only after we know exactly what the issue is, what’s needed to recover your data, and how much time and resources it will take, will we provide you with a fixed price. No surprises afterward, no hidden costs.

That, to us, is the only honest approach. Because your situation doesn’t deserve a “one size fits all” price. It deserves attention, customization, and maximum effort.

Pushing the Limits

If there’s one thing DRN is known for, it’s that we go the extra mile. We continuously invest in knowledge, equipment, and techniques specifically to handle the complex cases where others walk away. Not to promise everything—but to be able to try everything.

Because when it comes to irreplaceable data, a second chance is sometimes your last chance.

How Are the Prices Determined?

A common question is why data recovery is considered a significant investment. To provide more insight, we discuss the factors that influence the costs below.

Class-100 Laboratory
For most diagnoses and recoveries, data carriers are opened in a cleanroom environment. This is done in a secure Class-100 laboratory specifically designed for this purpose. A laboratory is a significant investment but is the only way to open a hard drive without causing further damage. Opening a hard drive in the open air would cause irreparable damage. Additionally, opening a drive in a laboratory ensures the preservation of the warranty (if still within the warranty period) through a DRN seal recognized by all manufacturers.
Specially Trained Technicians
Our technicians are specially trained to handle even the most complex recoveries. This requires a great deal of expertise and experience. The level of experience significantly influences the success of a recovery. DRN invests in the best technicians equipped with the most advanced tools. Our technicians continuously stay up-to-date with the latest developments through targeted training. Our Research & Development team works daily to stay ahead of technical advancements. They achieve this by closely collaborating with the largest hard drive manufacturers and hardware/software producers in the data recovery market. They also take the time to answer customers' questions by phone.
Donor Parts
Physical recovery requires donor parts to temporarily manipulate a data carrier. For this, it is necessary to maintain a stock of parts for nearly all models and series of data carriers. DRN has the largest stock of donor parts in the Netherlands. A donor part must match the damaged data carrier exactly, including the firmware code, model number, and site code. This investment ensures we can always act quickly.
Damage/Capacity of the Hard Drive
Naturally, the extent of damage and the size of the data carrier affect the price. A 250 GB hard drive is internally very different from a 4 TB hard drive, and the manipulation methods differ accordingly. The amount of data is not relevant in this context. Due to this process, we cannot provide fixed prices before conducting a diagnosis. Therefore, DRN advises against doing business with companies that offer fixed prices upfront, as a professional data recovery company that respects itself and its customers would never do this.
No Cure No Pay
We are aware that the cost of data recovery can seem disproportionate to the price of a data carrier. The reasons for this are outlined above and also explain why hard drive manufacturers do not offer data recovery services, only a replacement drive during the warranty period. We understand that the prices can be perceived as high and try to accommodate our customers through our No Cure No Pay policy. To guarantee the best results, we are required to maintain the prices mentioned above and always demand the utmost from our staff and equipment. We are proud of the fact that we can recover data in 95% of cases! Of course, we are always looking for ways to keep our prices as low as possible while maintaining the best results.
